Dunn Sohn
Woodturner, Furniture Maker

In a large workshop in the Maberly area, Dunn works on his beautiful custom designed furniture as well as his artistic wood sculptures and turnings. Clients may come with a specific design in mind, or sometimes just an idea and the concept is realized using Dunn's skills which draw upon his twenty-six years of professional woodworking experience. Drawn to the subtle beauty in a variety of wood grains, Dunn has learned to emphasize this to advantage in his furniture. Meticulously finished and highly figured birds-eye or curly maple are often used.

Rocking chairs are a specialty. "I designed these chairs over a period of years. My goal was to build a rocking chair that could be used comfortably for a long period of time. The final successful ergonomic form evolved as I learned through observation and experimentation. I have combined this comfort with a design that shows the wood to its best advantage. The sturdy construction and clean, strong look result in a beautiful heritage rocking chair that will last for generations."

Turned bowls and hand-carved forms are other aspects of Dunn's work which allow him to explore the organic nature of wood. Burls, stumps and highly figured wood are the raw materials used to create these pieces, which are both decorative and functional.

Jane Cass
Photography

janeJane Cass, a nature and landscape photographer embraces the diverse richness of vistas primarily in eastern Ontario. Whether it’s capturing the aura of serenity surrounding an old grist mill, the seeming indifference of a young bull moose, or the haunting sadness of an abandoned house, Jane has often explored the roads less travelled.

A career as a health professional has served to enhance her photographic process - attention to detail, patience, and flexibility, qualities she calls upon to shoot, create and present her photographic images.
